Executive Committee

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Downer, has established an Australian YOE Executive Committee to oversee Australia's contribution to the year. The committee is chaired by Dr Ashton Calvert AC, former departmental secretary and a former ambassador to Japan.

Other members are:

  • Ms Roslynne Bracher, Director, Paspaley Pearling Company;
  • Mr Peter Cleary, President, North West Shelf Australia LNG;
  • Mr Jerry Ellis, Chancellor, Monash University and Former Chairman, Australia-Japan Foundation;
  • Mr Hugh Morgan AC, President, Australia-Japan Business Cooperation Committee and Chairman, AustralAsia Centre of the Asia Society;
  • Mr Chris Renwick, retired former chief executive, Rio Tinto Iron Ore;
  • Mr David Russell RFD QC, Immediate Past President of the National Federation of Australia-Japan Societies;
  • Mr Peter Shelley, Chairman, Tasmanian Quality Foods;
  • Mr Sam Tolley, Chief Executive, Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation.
The Japanese counterpart committee is chaired by Mr Takashi Imai, Chairman of the Japan-Australia Business Cooperation Committee and Honorary Chairman of Nippon Steel.
